Moving Pictures: An Introduction to Cinema
(https://uark.pressbooks.pub/movingpictures/)
by Dr. Russell Sharman, published by The University of Arkansas Libraries
Moving Pictures is “a free and open-source introduction to the art and science of cinema. From the earliest iterations to the latest innovations, this introductory text explores the tools and techniques of mise-en-scene, narrative form, cinematography, editing, sound, and acting, how each has contributed to the evolution of cinematic language, and how that evolution implicates critical issues of representation in mass media. Moving Pictures offers an in-depth examination of how cinema communicates and what, exactly, it is trying to say.”
Various internet sites, while not comprehensive (or, perhaps, strictly legal), provide film scripts in a variety of forms.
Be aware that there can be many versions of a script: spec scripts, multiple drafts, revisions, shooting scripts, continuity scripts, and transcripts made directly from the finished film.
The list below links to some of the more reliable sites for freely accessible screenplays. For more information on finding screenplays, see the UCLA Library's Film and Television Subject Guide.
