Accessibility in the Library: ADA Compliance Overview

Provides an overview of ADA regulations and how the Felician University Library and its resources comply with them.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

According to the United States Department of Justice - Civil Rights Division, the "Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H.W. Bush.  The ADA is one of America's most comprehensive pieces of civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life" (Introduction to the ADA).  The ADA accessibility guidelines state that any organization that receives federal funding must accommodate people with disabilities.  To comply to these guidelines, universities like Felician must ensure that their websites and learning management systems are accessible to all users.
